David and Judy's Senior Moment
We own a Corvette! Now what?
The third year - 2003 Activities
Above February 7, 2003 - Just like December and January, the driving days this winter
are limited by lots of messy, not major, snows. I left the house on a sunny day
but ran through several snow showers while running errands. Not enough snow for
the dreaded salt trucks, however.
Above April 13, 2003 - The first official cruise of 2003 with the Fort Wayne Corvette
Club. From Southtown to Amishville in Geneva, IN. A great group of 24 cars and a
great way to break in the new stripes on the Corvette.
Above - April 22 to 27, 2003 - For our first BIG trip of 2003, we did the C5 Registry
Birthday Bash at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green and an
International Quilt Show in Paducah, Kentucky. Because of the I-65 mess
north of Louisville and because the Corvette is a 6-speed, we avoided the Dwight
D. Eisenhower Interstate Defense Highway System as much as possible. Going south
we departed I-65 through Gnaw Bone for Nashville, Indiana and Brown County.
We stopped for lunch at the Nashville House for fried biscuits and apple
butter - soooo good! Not much traffic on the twisties through the State Parks so
we stayed on randomly chosen secondary roads all the way to BG. Beautiful drive
on a sunny day!
(Unfortunately, we are two for two for rainy car show weather, Amelia Island, Florida - not a trip in the Corvette - was wet on the big day, March 9). Thursday and Friday in BG were mostly rainy but Saturday was nice. Judy had an interesting trip to the big Paducah, KY Quilt Show on Saturday but was 1.5 hours late getting home due to a flat tire on the bus. We were late for the Sat evening banquet but they saved some food for the quilters and spouses. The banquet included an auction to raise money for the National Corvette Museum. An autographed picture of Dale Earnhardt in the Corvette he drove at the Daytona 24 hour sold for over $13,000!!
The trip home Sunday was a different set of secondary roads through Madison and Muncie. Another great drive with perfect weather! This retirement deal is not too bad.

Above May 18, 2003 - Summer Place Old Time Village - The
Fort Wayne Corvette Club had a cruise from Fort
Wayne and Marion for a trip back to the '50's.

Above May 24, 2003 - A favorite great-niece has been talking for two
years about turning 16 so she could drive the Corvette. So, in Lexington,
Kentucky, on our way home from a wedding - why not?

Above June 18, 2003 - The Fort Wayne Corvette Club had a cruise of 12 plastic cars and two peek
up trucks to the "I Don't Care Cafe" in Van Wert, Ohio

Above June 22, 2003 - Hires Lima Road Grand
Opening Corvette Show. We were there but somehow I never got a good pic of our
car.

Above June 26 to 30, 2003 - THE BIGGEST CORVETTE TRIP of
2003 was the caravan from Fort Wayne to Bowling Green then to Nashville for all
the official GM and Corvette Museum celebrations! Above are a few of the 5000
Corvettes in the Titans Stadium parking lot in Nashville.

Above July 12, 2003 - The Fort Wayne Corvette Club had a
car show in conjunction with the local Hallmark stores announcement of the
Corvette 50th Anniversary Christmas ornaments. Any excuse is good for some shade
and socializing.

Above July 20, 2003 - The Fort Wayne Corvette Club hosted
a Poker Rally as part of the Three Rivers Festival. We worked a checkpoint and
found out the disadvantage of a rally with no overall time limit. People
wandered around the city for 5 hours looking for clues and checkpoints!

Above July 26 and 27, 2003 - The Fort Wayne Corvette Club
hosted a timed event through the pylons and we were there to work also. These
guys and gals are serious!

Above August 12, 2003 - The Fort Wayne Corvette Club got
together for a trip back to the '50's. We time-warped to Arnold's Drive-In,
Decatur, Indiana.

Above - August 19 to 25, 2003 - We did most of a lap around Lake
Michigan with stops at to see the Lake, to visit Mackinaw Island, to tour the
Upper Peninsula of Michigan, to attend the American Le Mans Series race at Road
America near Elkhart lake, Wisconsin, to take some hot laps while we were there
(above) and to ride a ferry boat back across lake Michigan. Great trip!

Above - September 9, 2003 - International Truck Employee Car Show.
Even retirees are invited!

Above - October 15 to 18, 2003 - Petit Le Mans at Road
Atlanta

October 19, 2003 - On our way back from the American Le
Mans Series Petit Le Mans race, we stopped at the birthplace of our C5.
