Engine Reference

Above – Only one picture was found of the engine in the 1962 Corvette Le Mans car undergoing restoration. Note the lack of steel shielding over the distributor and ignition wires. The shielding was used in Corvettes because the fiberglass body did not prevent radio interference as did the steel bodies in other cars. Race engines of this era did not need the shielding .

For additional information, some reference pictures are shown below of other similar engines.

Below is a properly restored, non-racing 1962 Corvette engine for comparison to the racing engine

Above – 2006-01-01 – The left side of the Fuel Injection engine in a 1962 Corvette advertised as an NCRS Top Flite car. Note the shielding over the distributor and ignition wires.

Above – 2006-01-01 – The right side of the Fuel Injection engine in a 1962 Corvette advertised as an NCRS Top Flite car. Note the shielding over the ignition components, not used in race cars.

For further information, some reference pictures are shown below of  the engine in a Cunningham 1960 Corvette Le Mans car with an engine very similar to the 1962. No shielding here.
