Tuesday, 2020 Palmeter Vacation

Sunrise

7:19 AM – Not everyone was out of bed, but Karen was!

Off to Cades Cove

Cades Cove is a broad, verdant valley surrounded by mountains and is one of the most popular destinations in the Great Smokies. It offers some of the best opportunities for wildlife viewing in the park. An 11-mile, one-way loop road circles the cove, offering motorists the opportunity to sightsee at a leisurely pace.

For hundreds of years Cherokee Indians hunted in Cades Cove but archeologists have found no evidence of major settlements. The first Europeans settled in the cove sometime between 1818 and 1821.

Scattered along the loop road are three churches, a working grist mill, barns, log houses, and many other faithfully restored eighteenth and nineteenth century structures.

Kyle enjoyed the mountain roads.

Big smiles (or a wave) for the camera….

Following the Harkness-Mobile on the Cades Cove loop road.

Authentic split rail fence reproduction, not favored by some Home Owners Associations.

This small, well-maintained log cabin has the attention of a small family.

11:03 AM – Storage Shed.

For a bigger family with lots of stuff (see storage shed).

On Little River Road… What is that Thing?

And this, one might assume, is Little River. For the miles that we followed it, Rocky River would be a good name, too.

Gatlinburg Overlook

The Space Needle would be a good place to look for our cabin, as the young folks found out on Wednesday.

Gatlinburg in the Smokies….

Closer upper picture.

Who is that masked man?

Bobcat!

6:54 PM – Scott spotted a bobcat passing by.

Brooke decided it was time to catch up on world events.
