My First RC Car
Finally, about 1968, all the pieces were available, and I built a 1:8 scale, gas powered, radio controlled car. The Monogram 1965 Corvette kit was the first body and the chassis was an original Ra/Car with all independent suspension and a two-speed transmission. The engine was a Veco .19. The tires were very heavy, solid rubber from a long-forgotten vendor on great looking cast wheels.
Below – And how did I start such an exotic machine? Borrowed a curious kid and his bicycle, turned the bike over and convinced the kid to crank while I did the tuning and the chief helper hangs on!

Above – As noted in the pictures below, the radio gear took up a lot of space, giving the Corvette a sorta “off roadlook”. All the radio gear was direct from the RC airplane catalog. The picture is from an 8mm movie.

Below – Phase 2 of the Corvette chassis, now sporting a Ford GT MkIV body but all the same gear, including the Ra/Car two speed transmission that I locked in high gear.

Above – I still have the body, but long since sold the chassis.
