The Educational Affairs Department of the Ford Motor Company was responsible for the Industrial Arts Award. The Industrial Arts Award began in 1946 under the sponsorship of Scholastic Magazine and later in 1949, Ford Motor Company took over sponsorship of the program. Students submitted industrial-themed projects in one of several categories. Students in seventh through twelfth grades entered the contest, as well as students in vocational, trade, industrial, and technical schools.
