3D Sign – Church

This is the low tech design method that I used to produce the sign:

– Use exisiting MS Excel sign layout drawing
– Finalize in MS Word to get a better border
– Convert to .pdf
– Use Zamzar Conversion to make it a .jpg
– Use Shapeways 2D to 3D to make the model
– Submit model
– Hope
– Get printability report
– Redesign required for some
– Order a 3D ‘print’ of the survivors
— (In the cheapest practical material)
– White, Strong and Flexible was ‘On Sale”!
— It is a sintered white nylon
– Got the test sign and three more from the eight submitted
– This one was not one of the first four that were ‘printable’
– It was redesigned

Painting the sign:
– Sealed it with Krylon 1309 UV Resistant Clear Matte Acrylic
– Flat sanded it with 220 sandpaper
– Used a brayer to paint the raised portions Tamiya X-1 Black
– Sealed it again with Krylon 1309 UV Resistant Clear Matte Acrylic
