Corvette C5 Racing History

C5 Based Racers
The cars shown below ran in various classes, including the equivalent to the 2007 GT2 class.
Cauley GT3
Above – This car ran at Daytona in 1999 in the USRRC GT3 class. The homologation status of the car is unknown. The factory C5-Rs introduced that year were in GT2.
Trinkler GT
Above – This is the first C5 Corvette internationally homologated for ALMS and Le Mans (ACO) GT (rather than GTS) class. Pratt and Miller was said to have been involved with the car. It is apparently based on a production fixed roof coupe. Chassis Number of the donor car is unknown but the race car is listed as LMGT 2000-17.
Above – The Trinkler team raced it in the ALMS race in Texas (shown) and at Sebring in 2001.
Above – 2001-07-22 – Donnington, England -The Trinkler car was sold to the Atomic Kitten Racing Team for the 2001 (and 2002?) racing season(s).
Xero – British GT
Above – The Trinkler/Atomic Kitten car ended up with the British GT Xero team for the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
"There too on the desk was a model of the original incarnation of the Xero Corvette, in its ALMS Trinkler Motorsport livery. 2003 finally began to show the potential of the car being delivered. With two Vettes on the grid this year, 2004 could be something special for UK Chevy lovers." GG dailysportscar.com January 3, 2004
CAMPEONATO DE ESPAÑA DE GT (Spanish GT)
SATURN MOTORSPORT / ALBADA STAR
Above – This car is from the Spanish GT series. It ran in 2001 and 2002 (and 2003)?
MCR GT
Above – Michael Colucci Racing has been competing for over 28 years. They ran a Callaway in GT class in three 2001 ALMS races and were on the GT pole at the 2001 Le Mans race.
October 31, 2002 – This info was found on their web site :
"The team's latest project has been the development of the brand new Corvette C5R-GT. This project is being done in conjunction with Pratt and Miller, General Motors, Katech and Goodyear and completion will coincide with the 50th Anniversary of the Corvette. The Corvette C5R-GT will compete in the prestigious ALMS Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in head to head competition with Porsche and BMW. This will be an all American effort with an American team and American drivers."
Post Script: Unfortunately, the team never appeared in 2003, apparently due to lack of sufficient funds. I do not know if a car was actually built and if so, where it ended up.
